Hey guys! May the 4th be with you today! I know it is a difficult time for everyone in the world right now but we have to have fun with the small things. Right? Who is thinking of binging the entire Skywalker Saga now that The Last Skywalker is on Disney+. I know I am!
Since today is Star Wars day what kind of geeky craft blog would I be if I didn’t do something! It took me a long time to think of what I wanted to do but I think I found the perfect thing. I wanted to make something with things that you may have around the house or that you could order online in case you are in one of the many areas that still have stay at home orders.
So today I am going to show you how to make a simple toilet paper roll Lightsaber.
For this craft you are going to need:
Toilet Paper roll
Scissors
1 sheet of black cardstock
1 sheet of white (tan or silver works as well) cardstock
2 sheets of red, blue, or green cardstock (can be any light saber color but these are just the most common ones)
Tape
Hot glue gun and/or glue sticks
What you want to do first is cover the toilet paper roll in the black cardstock. I cut the cardstock down to size before I glued it to the roll and then went back and did some trimming to the edges. I used hot glue but if you’re doing this with a child a glue stick will work just fine.
The next step is to take the two pieces of cardstock for the saber part and tape them together. This way you have a longer saber.
You want to roll the red cardstock so that it can fit inside the toilet paper roll. Once its the right size just glue the red cardstock together so it doesn’t unravel. After you glue the red cardstock together just slide it into the toilet paper roll. You can glue it together but I found it stays pretty snug so I decided not to.
The last step for this craft is to decorate the hilt of the lightsaber. This is what you want that last piece of cardstock for. You can do any design on the hilt that you want. Make it your own. I did a simple design for my sample. Just have fun with it.Also even if you used hot glue for the rest of the craft I do suggest using a regular glue stick for these pieces because of how small they are. Here is the final product.
I had a lot of fun making this craft and I hope you guys do too! Show me pictures of your final products! Also let me know what you have planned for this quarantined May the 4th. Any crafts that you are working on for the day?
